Microsoft has confirmed that raytracing had been added to a ‘Minecraft’ preview build “inadvertently”.

Earlier this week, The Verge’s senior editor Tom Warren had shared a video on Twitter showing raytracing support in the latest Preview version of ‘Minecraft’ (which is only available to Xbox Insider members) for Xbox Series X/S consoles.

However, Microsoft has now confirmed that this was done by mistake and there are no “near future plans to bring raytracing support to consoles”.

In a tweet on the official ‘Minecraft’ account, they wrote: “The previous Minecraft Preview build available to Xbox Insiders inadvertently included prototype code for raytracing support on Xbox consoles. This early prototype code has been removed from Preview and doesn’t signal near future plans to bring raytracing support to consoles.”

This news will be a blow for ‘Minecraft’ fans who have been waiting for raytracing for some time. Microsoft previously announced in 2019 it would bring raytracing support to the sandbox video game, though at the time this was only related to the PC version.
